Book 4

Being handed the keys to a Texas-style castle sounds good, but Jolene’s surprise inheritance is anything but a free ride. For starters, there’s the pesky toxic waste buried amongst the mesquites and pump jacks, and the surly contractors hired to deal with the mess aren't making things easy for their new commander-in-chief. Even more distasteful, the terms and conditions of the grand gift are forcing her to do what she swore she never would—move back to Kickapoo, Texas.

Admitting that Hell has frozen over and she’s found herself living in it is disturbing enough, but true to form, her mother is making things exponentially worse. Lucille’s broken hip is healing fast, but she’s still convinced the rehab center is a death camp and is plotting an escape. Jolene’s not buying it—or aiding and abetting a jail break. But when a body rolls by on a gurney, and then Lucille’s friend down the hall goes missing, Jolene’s hopping on board in a hot hurry.

Things aren't so great at the fancy big house either. Oh, sure, the place is fabulous—and enjoying it with the sheriff even more so. But with rehab patients hiding out in the bedrooms, flickering bats in the belfry, a mysterious explosion on the hill and illegal goods stashed at the jobsite, it’s anything but home sweet home for Jolene. And with Lucille beating a path back to rehab to play self-appointed undercover mole, there’s no guarantee anybody’s going to live to tell about all these Killer Moves.

Killer Moves The 4th Jolene Jackson Mystery Jolene Jackson Mysteries edition by Paula Boyd Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks

I really like Jolene, and I like Jerry, but I love Lucille! The fact that I have such strong feelings for these characters says a lot about Paula Boyd 's writing skill. In each of the books in this series, I have been drawn into the lives of the characters, visited all the locales, and experienced the excitement and mystery. It had been a little while since I had read the third book, but enough information was available that it didn't take long to catch up. This story appears to have a sequel in the works, and I can't wait. Jolene is sure to find herself in trouble, Jerry is sure to be there to be the stable hero, and Lucille will most assuredly be right in the middle of it all with her irascible personality. Although things were rather neatly tied up, Ms. Boyd cleverly left several open issues to be addressed in another good read. In the midst of telling a great story, Ms. Boyd makes you think about environmental problems as well as the issues seniors face every day. That's quite a bonus.

There are many versions of the heroine in trouble - strong detective hero story out there in Kindle-land, but the Jolene Jackson series grabbed my attention early on. There are believable mysteries, delightful characters, and just a special something that sets them apart. Maybe it's the fact that Ms. Boyd can write a good story without explicit sex for the sake of sex, or that there are everyday characters who live in everyday places who could be you or me. (Our local DQ is the social center of town.) Whatever the reason, I recommend this series, but I highly recommended that you start at the first book. In spite of the fact that each book is a self-contained story, there are some rather serious underlying continuing themes that add a deeper dimension. The author gives enough detail that the reader is not lost, but the earlier books add a great deal of dimension.

There are some editing problems in this ebook, but I was so engrossed in the story that I barely noticed. They were not detrimental to my attention.

Killer Moves The 4th Jolene Jackson Mystery Jolene Jackson Mysteries edition by Paula Boyd Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

LOVED the complexity of this one - there were so many mysteries at once, and poor Jolene was really spread thin! Between worrying about the contaminated land, her fiance, wrecked cars, and chaos in the rehab center, it is no wonder she was even more frazzled than usual. I also love the cliffhangers at the end - I can hardly wait to see what new adventures await Jolene and Lucille. Keep writing Paula!
After waiting a long, long time, I finally got to read Paula Boyd's 4th book. It was really good and continued from the last book and was over all too soon. How long do we have to wait for the next book when the get married?
The fourth in the series and Ms. Boyd does not disappoint. The crazy continues and all your favorite characters are back. Ms. Boyd's characters are well drawn and the plot moves at a good rate. Just a fun read. As a native Texan I especially enjoyed the small West Texas town she set these in.
Very fun! The only thing was that it was so long on between books that I forgot a lot of the main parts from the previous book. I should have gone back and re-read the previous one. Other than that this was another very good, entertaining fun mystery. Highly recommend this series if you enjoy a light mystery with a female lead.
I feel like the author rushed this one a little too much. There were numerous editing errors - letters missing from words, words missing from sentences, extra words in sentences. I don't recall seeing this type of error in her previous books. The basic storyline was great, but there were holes that were unfilled at the end. We see who the bad guys are, and what they are going, but there is no explanation of why, or who is behind it.
I love Paula Boyd!!! She writes like we talk and I have so many laughs, and giggles just following Jolene and her Mom's antics. Just when you think you have it figured out, wham! Another curve and more excitement. I bought volume one first and after reading it quickly bought the next four books, and I loved each one!!! I will continue to buy anything Paula writes. You will not be disappointed.
I have waited for this book it seems like forever and was so very eager to gobble it up just like I devoured the first 3. I just love Jolene Jackson and Paula Boyd has made her so real to me. This latest installment was a surprise as it seems that Jolene was really not herself. Yes I know she was coming back to Texas with a lot on her mind but that doesn't account for seeming like a whole different person, and you would think that she would be glad that Jerry Don was waiting for her. After all she did grow up in Kickapoo Texas. It was never explained why people were given the little pink pills in the rehab center and why Jolene herself was so flighty that she would forget to put on the parking brake or drive so fast as to total her mothers car? There were a few glimpses of the old Jolene but I must say I was not in love with this one. I am now being picky but there were missed words here and there so you had to figure out what was being said. I really wanted to like this one but.... Disappointed is a understatement.
